Flowmasonic WUF100 Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Flowmasonic is ultrasonic flow meter series WUF100 adopts a state-of-the-art, single-board technology featuring high precision, high reliability, high performance, low price, etc. that make it the ultrasonic flow meter of choice by many customers from all over the world. It’s main features are:
  • The sensors being clamp-on type, there’s no pressure loss. The sensors are easily mounted on the surface of the pipe without interrupting the flow for installation or maintenance.
  • Advanced intelligent display, computation and printing(data logger) to suit user’s diversified requirements. The flow is displayed in all pertinent engineering units. It runs out of regular AC power(110V/220V), built-in batter or DC power.
  • Using the most advanced direct-time-measuring method, the meter offers a signal resolution of 0.2ns. In addition, advanced data processing functions ensure Flowmasonic series WUFof high linearity.
  • Signal outputs including current signal, frequency signal, serial data, switch outputs(1 OCT and 1 relay output). All the outputs displayed on the unit can be transmitted to a PC via RS-232/485 for further processing or storage.

The Flowmasonic is ultrasonic flow meter is designed to measure the fluid velocity of liquid within a closed conduit. The transducers are a non-contacting, clamp-on type, which will provide benefits of non-fouling operation and easy installation. 


Working Principle of Transit-Time Technology
  • For the measurement, two
    ultrasonic pulses are sent
    through the medium, one in
    flow direction, and the other
    against it. The transducers are
    alternatively working as emitter
    and receiver. 
  • The transit time of the
    ultrasonic signal propagating in
    flow direction is shorter than
    the transit time of the signal
    propagating against flow
    direction. 
  • The transit-time
    difference Δt is measured and
    allows the determination of the
    average flow velocity on the
    propagation path of the
    ultrasonic signals. 
  • A profile
    correction is performed to
    obtain the average flow velocity
    on the cross-section of the
    pipe, which is proportional to
    the volume flow. 
The Flowmasonic WUF100 Series transit time clamp on flow meter utilizes two transducers that function as both ultrasonic transmitters and receivers. The transducers are clamped on the outside of a closed pipe at a specific distance from each other. 
The transducers of flow masonic flow meter can be mounted in V-method where the sound transverses the pipe twice, or W-method where the sound transverses the pipe four times, or in Z-method where the transducers are mounted on opposite sides of the pipe and the sound crosses the pipe once. 

This selection of the mounting method depends on pipe and liquid characteristics. The flowmasonic series WUF100 flow meter operates by alternately transmitting and receiving a frequency modulated burst of sound energy between the two transducers and measuring the transit time that it takes for sound to travel between the two transducers. The difference in the transit time measured is directly and exactly related to the velocity of the liquid in the pipe.

Transducers 

Since ultrasounds propagate in solids, the transducers can be mounted onto the pipe. The measurement is therefore non-invasive, and no cutting of pipes is necessary for the installation of the transducers. Because with just 3 sets of transducers, pipes ranging from 15mm to 6000mm can be covered, the ownership cost doesn’t increase as the pipe size increases, which is the decisive cost saving factor as compared to traditional flow meters.

Flowmasonic series WUF 100J is designed to measure the fluid velocity of liquid within a

The hand held flow meter is based on clamp-on transit-time flow measurement principle. It measures the flow rate of liquid in a pipe from outside of the pipe by using a pair of ultrasonic transducers. In general, the liquid should be full in the pipe, and should contain very little particles or bubbles.

Portable ultrasonic flow meter is a type of flow meter that measures the velocity of a fluid with ultrasound to calculate volume flow. The SL1168P ultrasonic transducers strap-on the outside of pipes from 1″ to 48″ (DN25 to DN mm) diameter.   •  Clamp On type transducer flow meters Installation 
    • Before installation, choose density pipe to install  transducers, and clean the installation area, clear away rust, paint, anti-rust layer, it is the best to use angle grinder to polish, use cleaning cloth with alcohol or acetone to clear oil and dust, coat enough couplant around the center of installation area, attach the transducers on the pipe and fix it without air bubbles or sand between transducers and pipe wall. Clamp on type transducer has  3 sizes Small , Medium size and large size.
  • Insertion type transducer flow meters installation 
    • Transducers   can be installed   directly on pipes of   carbon steel or stainless steel by welding; while for those pipes of materials like cast iron, glass fiber reinforced plastic, PVC and cement which cannot be welded   directly, special straps should be used for installation. For those users who are in similar situation, please inform us of the precise outside diameter of the pipe to be installed to prevent leakage
  • In-line type transducer flow meter installation 
    • In-line type transducer of new TDS-100 ultrasonic flow meters is characterized by easy installation and high-accuracy measurement. When ordering, customers need to provide the actual parameters of the pipe. The parameters of the transducer have been put into the flow meter before leaving factory and there is no need to input them when installing.

Untuk hal ini biasanya departemen maintenance atau departemen QC membutuhkan suatu alat yang penggunaanya sifatnya sesaat dan tidak perlu di pasang seterusnya atau bisa dipindah2 sesuai dengan keinginan para engineer atau Portable Flow meter

Ultrasonic flow meters mempunyai beberapa jenis installasi dimana ini tergantung pada jenis transducer yang digunakan. Seperti yang kita ketahui ada 3 jenis transducer ultrasoonic flow meter yaitu :

  • Insertion Transducer sensor
  • Clamp On Transducer Sensor
Khusus untuk jenis transducer Clamp On atau Clip On Ultrasonic flow meter ini bisa diaplikasikan untuk jenis flow meter portable, hal ini dimungkinkan karena transducer clamp on ultrasonic ini cukup simple dan cepat cara menggunakannya. Transducer dari ultrasonic clamp on portable flow meter mempunyai beberapa ukuran tergantung pada diameter jalur pipa yang akan diukur debitnya atau flow rate nya serta total akumulasi fluid yang mengalir pada waktu tertentu.
Portable ultrasonic flow meter merupakan flow meter yang banyak di gunakan untuk inspeksi baik oleh QC, Maintenance, Engineer guna mengetahui debit fluida / flow rate. Berikut ini langakah-langkah yang harus dilakukan dalam mempersiapkan dan mengguankan portable flow meters :
  1. Cek kelengkapan Units ultrasonic portable flow meter dan pastikan adanya :
    • Main unit Transmitter
    • 1 Set Transducer ( 2 ea)
    • 1 set Transducer cable ( 2 ea )
    • Clamp
    • Gel, Coupling compound
    • Alat ukur panjang, diameters ( penggaris, meteran atau lainnya )
    • Charger
    • SD card
  2. Tentukan posisi pengukuran pada pipa :
    • Arah aliran usahakan vertikal ( buttom to top ) atau
    • Horizontal 
    • Jarak Down stream dan up stream ( lihat mannual operational) rudy
  3. Ukur dimensi pipa 
    • Diameter atau keliling
    • Ketebalan pipa
    • Ketebalan Linner ( jika menngunakan linner )
    • Cek menu M 10 sampai M 13
  4. Tentukan Jenis Material pipa(Carbon steel,SUS,PVC atau laiannya)
    • Cek menu M 14sampai M 18
  5. Tentukan jenis Fluida ( water, sea water, fuel, oil dll) 
    • Cek menu M 20 sampai 22
  6. Dari ukuran Pipa yang diketahui pilih jenis transducer dari segi size maupun working temperaturnya
  7. Masukan parameter yang telah didapatkan diatas kemudian lihat jarak transducer yang tercantum dalam menu jarak transducer dan jangan lupa masukan jenis pemasangan Transducer ( V, Z, N or W) 
  8. Pemasangan transducer
    • Beri tanda tempat pemasangan transducer berdasarkan jarak transducer yang didapat pada transmitter
    • Bersihkan permukaan pipa dari kotoran, debu, cat, karat
    • Bersihkan permukaans ensor dan beri gel secukupnya dan merata
    • Pasang Transducer di permukaan pipa yang telah di tentukan
    • Clamp Transducer agar tidak berubah posisinya 
  9. Cek sekali lagi apakah parameter-parameter seperti diameter pipa, tebal pipa, jenis pipa, jenis flluid, jenis transducer dan type pemasangan transducer untuk memastikan kebenarna parameter tersebut.
  10. Pastikan lagi units pengukurannya baik units waktu bisa di pilih detik, menit, jam atau day. Untuk Volume bisa digunakan liters, M3, gallon atau lainnya sesuai dengan keinginan masing-masing.
  11. Cek nilai tom/tos apakah memenuhi syarat yang ditentukan oleh manufacture atau tidak 97 – 103
  12. Hidupkan pompa atau buka valve dan tunggu beberapa saat hingga fluida didalam pipa mengalir normal
  13. Cek Q dari aliran jika Q telah memenuhi syarat yang di tentukan dimana semakin tinggi Q dan semakin stabil maka akurasinya makin baik.
  14. Selanjutnya silahkan lihat di menu yang menunjukan flow rate dan totalizer
  15. Untuk Aplikasi yang ingin disimpan di sd card silahkan cari menu dan lakukan penyimpanan
  16. Untuk lamanya pengecekan silahkan masukkan menu waktu dan sebagainya
  17. Selanjutnya silahkan gunakan menu2 lainnya sesuai dengan tujuan anda menggunakan flow meter ini

The SiteLab units are user friendly and easily set up in just a few minutes by means of an interactive display, whereby various parameters, such as the type of fluid to be measured, pipe size, thickness of the pipe wall and material of construction, are all entered into the unit and the unit then computes the data in order to give the setting distance between the two ultrasonic sensors.

The fixed unit consists of a wall mount electronics package housed in a Nema 4X (IP65) enclosure and two clamp-on sensors that are permanently clamped to the outside of the pipe. The electronics package offers an easy to read 2-line LCD display with a 16x pushbutton keypad for setting up purposes that utilises a simple menu driven process that makes setting-up very easy and convenient for the operator. A 4-20 mA current loop output as well as pulse and frequency outputs enable the unit to be used for continuous monitoring of flow as well as for totalising and batch operations. The unit is powered from a mains or DC voltage supply.

For applications where monitoring is infrequent, or where it is required to spot-check the operation of pumps or other process equipment, such as the flow through heat exchangers, the SiteLab model SL1188P portable ultrasonic flowmeter can be used. It offers a great advantage in ease of setting up since it utilises Bluetooth communications between the flowmeter and a Tungsten Palm PDA device to allow for greater portability and increased battery life. The software included with the system enables the PDA display to be used in the same way as the interactive display on the model SL1188 fixed unit. The PDA display and stylus offers the same functions and ease of setting up of parameters that are downloaded to the flowmeter by Bluetooth wireless technology from up to 10 m away. The Tungsten PDA offers enhanced functions for logging and trending in a realtime environment or for later visual interpretation with its unique graphing function.

The SiteLab SL1188P portable ultrasonic flowmeter is supplied in a handy and lightweight carry case with the flowmeter, sensors, PDA, battery charger and all standard accessories.
